For a facility to be able to protect its occupants it must be “hardened.”  Hardening is a term used to describe special steps taken to fortify walls, ceilings, floors, windows and doors of a portion or an entire structure.  Hardening is usually confined to key areas of a residence such as the bedroom suites, nurseries, security offices, etc.  However hardening can extend throughout a structure as needed.
